Doug Coby to Make His NASCAR Truck Series Debut at the Bristol Motor Speedway

This weekend, only the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity drivers will be in action. The Truck Series drivers will be back on track the following weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway, as the final race of the opening Playoff round looms. There will also be a new face in the paddock, as Doug Coby is making his debut.

The driver will pilot the #24 GMS Racing truck this weekend at Bristol. He said, “A little over a month ago, hung out with my crew chief. I kind of learned a little bit, how the trucks work and what they expect of me. How quickly he needs me to adapt to the truck, just because we’re going to start so far back in the pack.”

Coby knows that he and GMS Racing cannot afford to surrender track position too many times. This is especially important as he is trying to adapt to the series itself. Having said that, Coby insisted that if he could run a modified car at Bristol, then he is capable of adapting to a NASCAR truck.

What else did Doug Coby say?

He revealed that when he drove the K&N Pro car, he was able to get to grips with the car easily. However, Coby acknowledged that he has to consider that the Trucks are a lot heavier and slower than what he is used to. He admitted that the modified cars are pretty light and nimble and ‘dart like flies’ on the track.

Doug Coby also said that he is a little excited to make his Truck Series debut, especially at the age of 42. He declared that he had his team to thank for handing him the opportunity. He is excited to go back to the fast and challenging Bristol track, which is also one that he is familiar with, having raced there in the modified cars on eight occasions.
