Emma Raducanu Joins Legends Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Serena Williams, and Others After US Open 2021 Triumph

At 18 years old, most people don’t have any idea about their goals in life. However, such isn’t the case with Emma Raducanu. In fact, the young Briton teenager recently won one of the four biggest titles, the US Open 2021, at the same age. Interestingly, it brings her to the list of few teenage sensations in the WTA history, where Monica Seles still reigns at the top.

Inarguably, winning a Grand Slam is of the highest prestige in tennis. While Raducanu has already realized it, let’s look at the other women’s players who have done the same before her.

Emma Raducanu joins an elite list of tennis players

Although it is not the first time a teenager has won a Grand Slam in WTA, it is rather extraordinary. What’s more, Raducanu defeated another teenager, 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez, in the US Open 2021 final.

And so, the Briton girl joined Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Hana Mandlikova, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova in the teenage Slam champions list. Remarkably, while Raducanu has won her 1st at 18 years and 303 days old, Seles had already won seven.

Moreover, winning the second Grand Slam is even more challenging compared to the maiden. It would be interesting to see whether Raducanu again lifts a trophy in 2022.

Other records Raducanu made or matched in New York

Fascinatingly, Raducanu became the first-qualifier ever in tennis history to win a Grand Slam tournament. Indeed, it makes her glory exceptional than others.

Besides, the Englishwoman also did not drop a single set in the ten matches she played in New York. Hence, her run at the US Open 2021 could probably come to the closet to define a perfect Grand Slam campaign.

Most significantly, Raducanu was playing only her second Grand Slam main draw event. Before this, she hadn’t experienced a single WTA tour-level win. As a result, her story of three weeks in New York will run for many years to come in tennis.

Emma Raducanu has won the US Open. Things she hasn’t done as a professional:

– Won a WTA tour match
– Played a tour level three set match(!!)
– Played on clay
– Directly entered a slam main draw
– Played five tour level events

One of the craziest breakout runs ever.
