TESCO has launched reuseable packaging in a select number of stores.

Shoppers will be able to purchase items like Persil, tea bags, and Heinz in resuseable packaging.

The supermarket chain has launched the initiative in partnership with global reusable packaging platform Loop.

Customers will be able to take the packaging back to the store, where it will be cleaned, refilled, and used again.

The new renewable range consists of 88 products, including Persil, Fever-Tree, Carex, Tetley Tea and BrewDog.

Tesco has also included 35 own brand essentials in the range, such as pasta, rice, oil and sugar.

Tesco has also included 35 own brand essentials in the range, such as pasta, rice, oil and sugar.
A deposit of £0.20 will be attached to each reusable item.

Once the packaging is returned shoppers will be refunded the deposit through the app.

Customers wishing to opt for reusable packaging simply visit the Loop fixture in the store and add the products they want into their trolley as a part of their shop.

The Loop range comes ready prefilled in the perfect container for that product, so there’s no need for customers to bring their own containers or refill themselves.

It is not clear if the reusable productswill be more expensive.

The Sun has contacted Tesco for comment.

Ken Murphy, Tesco Group CEO, said the initiative will help the chain plan for future packaging.

He added: “We are determined to tackle plastic waste and one of the ways we can help is by improving reuse options available to customers. Bringing Loop to our stores is a significant milestone in this journey.”

Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of Loop and TerraCycle, said his company hopes to scale their offering across more stores: “The consumer reaction to Loop in these first Tesco stores will prove pivotal in refining the Loop offering and ultimately we hope to scale reuse across more stores and the number of product lines available.”

Tesco has said that the reusable goods will be comparable in price to similar goods in store.

Loop Ambassadors will be on hand to explain what Loop is and how it works.
