The crash between the title contenders Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen cleared the way for Daniel Ricciardo to claim an impressive victory at the Italian Grand Prix, giving McLaren their first race win since the 2012 Brazilian GP. The Australian too tasted the winning champagne after a very long time, last winning the race during his Red Bull days at the 2018 Monaco GP.

Zak Brown praises Andreas Seidel leadership
Since the appointment of Andreas Seidel as the McLaren team principal at the start of May 2019, the Woking-Based team has been on an upward trajectory. In the leadership of the German engineer, McLaren ended their 170 race-winning drought at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. “Andreas is always very very calm, which is great. I mean, that’s the kind of leadership you want in the Formula 1 team,” said Zak Brown.
“As he says, one win and last weekend wasn’t very good, so I think we have to keep our feet on the ground. And one win at a time.”

In addition, Brown, who joined Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris on the podium, joked that he had made a deal with Seidl to lift the trophy.
“I’m just happy I cut one deal with Andreas – I cut deals with the drivers – but Andreas and I actually cut the deal, which is that he gets all the work and gets the win, but I get to lift the trophy. One of the best deals I cut! I’m always up for a deal,” said McLaren CEO.
