Steve-O reveals bone-crunching Jackass stunts deemed ‘too violent’ they were cut from series

Yes, even Jackass draws the line at what stunts eventually land on our screens.
Steve-O has lifted the lid on what didn’t make it to the iconic series, describing three particularly heinous pranks involving Johnny Knoxville, deemed too violent and grim.
As we prepare to see the lads back in action after a decade with Jackass Forever due to premiere next year, Steve-O joined co-star Wee-Man on First We Feast‘s Truth or Dab in which he spilled the piping hot tea over some hot wings.
You’d think concussion would hamper this, but Steve-O can recall ‘at least three’ specific stunts that had been filmed but later deemed too shocking to air.
The first of which was branded ‘box down stairs’ and involved, well, Johnny being locked in a padded box and thrown down a flight of concrete stairs all for giggles.
Steve-O described it as being ‘violent as hell’, which says a lot seeing as most of the stunts are ‘violent as hell’.
Another involved Johnny shooting himself with a a ’38-calibre Smith and Wesson handgun’ while wearing a bulletproof vest.
While he remarkably lived to tell the tale, we can understand, for various reasons, why show bosses decided it was best that wasn’t shown to audiences.
Then there was apparently the time Johnny was deliberately hit by a car for another ‘prank’.
‘He said, “I’m Johnny Knoxville and I’m going to get hit by a car real soon”,’ Steve-O explained. ‘[The] car just came flying, he went through the windshield, rolled over. They asked him, “What were you thinking when you got hit by a car?” And his answer was, “I wore two pairs of jeans so that I’d be safe”.’
It comes after experts estimated the Jackass crew had amassed a frankly offensive $24million (£17.5m) in injuries over the years, with Johnny responsible for $8m (£5.7m) of those.
Johnny topped the study, commissioned by pre-settlement funding company Nova Legal Funding, which may come as little surprise seeing as we’ve seen him sustain 16 concussions, with co-star Steve-O making light of his comrade’s head injuries in the trailer for their latest coccyx bender.
Steve-O explained: ‘Concussions aren’t great…but as long as you have them before you’re 50, it’s cool. And Knoxville’s 49, so we’re good.’
The study looked at 79 injuries in total, across six members of the Jackass crew, spanning 28 broken bones, 36 head injuries, and one alligator-related injury, if you were keen on the gnarly specifics.
Johnny was followed not by his ol’ pal Steve-O but by Ehren McGhehey, who tallied up an estimated $7.3m (£5.2m) in injuries.
If you were wondering, Steve-O was in third with a total of $5.82m (£4.2m) with his series of broken teeth making up $350,000 (£252k) of the repair bill alone. Dave England was on the list at $1.6m (£1.15m) and Jason ‘Wee Man’ Acuña coming in at fifth place with $675,000 (£486k).

In crunching these numbers, for want of a better word, which, we should note, aren’t an official finding from the Jackass team, experts used internal expertise for each reported injury sustained by members of the Jackass cast before, during and in between all of the series and films.
In terms of the most expensive injuries, the study estimated Johnny’s brain haemorrhage in 2020 during filming for Jackass Forever to have cost a headache-inducing $2.5m (£1.8m), while Steve-O’s skull fracture cost an estimated $1.75m (£1.2m).
This is a good time for us to tell you not to try these stunts at home. Ever. Please.
Jackass Forever is scheduled to land in cinemas February 4, 2022.
