Britney Spears shocked and delighted fans overnight when she announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari.
Just days after her dad Jamie Spears filed a petition to end her conservatorship – which she has been under since 2008 – the 39-year-old Toxic singer announced the heartwarming news in a video shared on her Instagram page.
The joyous moment comes after Sam, 27, told his followers to chill when photos of a diamond ring appeared on his Instagram Stories on Friday and that his account had been ‘hacked’, writing at the time: ‘Account got hacked and was photoshopped – calm down everyone!’

Who is Sam Asghari and when did he propose to Britney Spears?
Sam is an Iranian-born personal trainer, model and actor who has appeared on the Showtime series Black Monday.

And, as you may have gathered, he confirmed he’d proposed to Britney on Sunday.
The superstar was seen flashing her new, massive diamond ring and posing with her other half, as she captioned the post: ‘I can’t f*cking believe it 💍💍💍💍💍💍❣️!!!!!!’
‘Look at that, do you like it?’ Sam is heard telling her.
‘Yes!’ Britney screamed with happiness.
It’s believed he proposed on Sunday, and it’s the first time we’ve caught a proper glimpse of this particular sparkler on the singer’s ring finger.
In a statement to Reuters, Sam’s manager Brandon Cohen confirmed that the pair were engaged.
He said: ‘The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them.

Sam previously told Men’s Health that the pair struck up a conversation on set, exchanged phones numbers and soon after went out on a date for sushi.
The relationship progressed, and they were pictured together just a few months later on New Year’s Eve.
On New Year’s Day 2017, Britney made things Instagram official by posting a photo of Sam putting his arm around her at dinner.
‘She motivates me more than anyone,’ he told the publication in 2018. ‘It’s crazy how I can be humbled by a person like her.
‘If I could be that humble when I’m that high in life, that would be the best thing.
‘I grew up with three sisters, and my personality is just to be a supportive person for my family and she’s family. I’m always going to support her. She is another blessing that happened to me.’

It’s clear Britney and Sam are revelling in engaged bliss and haven’t as of yet shared publicly a date for their wedding.
Still, it’s not the first time the pair have been drawn on potential wedding bells, after Britney shared her intention to marry and have children with Sam during an explosive testimony as part of a conservatorship hearing.

The singer has been married twice before.
She wed childhood friend Jason Alexander in an infamous Las Vegas wedding in 2004, before the marriage was annulled a few days later.
