Daniil Medvedev’s Father Reveals Suffering From ‘Arrhythmia’ After US Open 2021 Finals Against Novak Djokovic

Russian tennis powerhouse Daniil Medvedev has been a man on a mission at the US Open 2021. He has been in sensational form over the past few weeks. On Sunday, he beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to lift his first Grand Slam title at the US Open 2021.

However, all is not well in the Medvedev camp. His father Sergei Medvedev was dealing with heart problems during and after his son’s final at the US Open 2021. The next morning he woke up and felt an arrhythmia, which is a condition in which the heart beats abnormally.

Daniil’s father spoke about this issue and stated, “Thank you for your congratulations and support! You remember and know how difficult it is to turn your son into a son of the whole of Russia. These two weeks were as if somewhere far away, as if on a business trip. Apple watches have shown atrial fibrillation on an ECG for many days.” (Translated using Google Translate)

Father could not watch Daniil Medvedev playing in Grand Slam finals

Even though his son was playing for his maiden Grand Slam title, Sergei was not watching the match. The pressure to deal with was above his limits.

The 2021 US Open winner’s father added, “I didn’t watch the match. During the match, I lay with my eyes closed and counted to myself to 600. And so again and again, until my wife came in and said: “Let’s kiss.”

I hardly slept at night. And now in the morning, I feel arrhythmia again. Today I have a cardiologist at 13.30. This is how success and victories come to the parents of a champion.”

It’s sad for Daniil to deal with such trauma during a joyous moment. We hope to see his father recover and get back to normalcy and wish the World No. 2 from Russia all the best for the future.
