Ocasio-Cortez made a political statement through her wardrobe choice during fashion’s biggest night of the year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Following her red carpet appearance, hundreds of social media users took to Twitter to share side-by-side photos of Ocasio-Cortez and singer Joy Villa.

One tweet read: “aoc wears a ‘tax the rich’ dress in an apparent mockery of joy villa’s ‘build the wall’ dress from the 2019 grammys. inch resting.”

Joy Villa pulled a political fashion statement in a pro-Trump gown at the 2019 Grammys — where she showed up wearing a brick-patterned dress with “build the wall” printed across it in red.

Villa’s dress looked similar to Pink Floyd’s album “The Wall.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s dress sparked criticism across social media as some people slammed her for wearing a “tax the rich” dress to an event where tickets cost at least $30,000.

Speaking in a red carpet interview with her gown’s designer on Monday evening, the New York Democrat said: “We really started having a conversation about what it means to be working-class women of color at the Met.

“And we said we can’t just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions.”
