VIDEO: New 360° Footage Reveals More Astonishing Details About Hamilton-Verstappen F1 Crash

Although this year’s Italian Grand Prix is now in the past, fans continue to dwell on the moments which took place on Sunday. Among many stunning moments, the one which stood out was the crash involving championship rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Since the crash took place on Lap 26, fans saw it from a few different angles, be it on TV, live streams or social media. However, the official F1 handle provided a new view of the crash, which displays the stunning event differently.

Over the years, F1 has seen technology advance immensely. Since the first onboard camera featured on a race car in 1985, teams have added more cameras to it in order to provide more visuals. Although the 360-degree camera made its debut in 2018, F1 didn’t release any coverage of the action from that camera.

The 360-degree camera features on the nose of the car, right between the halo and the front wing. In a 76-second video, F1 released footage depicting the action from these cameras on Hamilton’s and Verstappen’s cars.

From Hamilton‘s camera, fans can see the whole crash unfold. Right from the point they make contact, to Verstappen’s right rear tire running over the Briton and the halo, this camera gives a more complete view. It also shows the defending champion kicking up some gravel as he tried to reverse and keep going.

Verstappen‘s camera, on the other hand, doesn’t show as much. However, it shows the Dutchman checking on his British rival briefly, before walking right past the scene.

Verstappen will serve a three-place grid penalty in the Russian Grand Prix

The 53-lap race in Monza saw Daniel Ricciardo take his first race win in three years. In addition, McLaren‘s performance on Sunday helped them leapfrog Ferrari in the constructor’s championship. Meanwhile, Mercedes and Red Bull needed Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez to bring home valuable points for their respective teams.

Following Sunday’s race, Verstappen and Hamilton met the stewards as part of their investigation. Later that day, they announced the Dutchman will take a three-place grid penalty in the next race, which is the Russian Grand Prix.
