WWE NXT results, grades: Tommaso Ciampa wins title as Von Wanger and Bron Breakker debut to start new era

WWE NXT 2.0 kicked off this week as Tommaso Ciampa became the new NXT Champion.

He’s already got a target on his back with the debuting Bron Breakker stepping up as a challenger at the end of the night having beaten LA Knight in the opening match of the night as the new era truly got underway.

The night started with Ciampa, Pete Dunne, Kyle O’Reilly and Knight cutting promos before their title match after Samoa Joe was forced to give up the gold due to injury.

After Knight was done, Breakker – the son of legendary wrestler Rick Steiner – came out to challenge him to a match there and then, whihc the newcomer won with a big gorilla press powerslam.

Later in the night, the complexion of the main event changed somewhat as Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland – after the latter destroyed Drake Maverick in a squash match – attacked O’Reilly in the locker room and left him unable to compete in the main event.

Instead, William Regal replaced him with another new star in Von Wagner, who found himself holding his own with three veterans in a high profile debut.

In the end, Ciampa was the one to get the win and reclaim his NXT Championship, showing that there is still a need for the ‘old guard’ to carry this next stage in the brand’s history.

On that note, it should be said that the new set for the show looks fantastic, and is a marked improvement after months of the dark Capitol Wrestling Center.

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis get married

The main event segment of the evening was the long awaited Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell wedding as the pair finally tied the knot.

Johnny Gargano, Odyssey Jones and Drake Maverick were seen getting ready as Austin Theory returned with Damian Priest, giving Gargano a hug while Candice LeRae was seen getting Indi ready.

Ikemen Jiro had the rings, while Indi’s vows were as adorable as you’d imagine – and Lumis was as quiet as ever.

This confused the priest, who got laid out with the Silence before Beth Phoenix jumped in to officiate, with everything hitting the right note here before the Tortured Artist finally spoke to say ‘I do’.

Elsewhere, Imperium made light work of Brooks Jenson and Josh Briggs, while Hit Row hyped u B-Fab before she squashed Katrina Cortez and called out Elektra Lopez.

Carmelo Hayes has some backup (Picture: WWE)

The latter was held back by Santos Escobar though, who wanted Legado del Fantasma’s newest member to wait for her moment.

Carmelo Hayes appeared with new friend Trick Williams, as he noted he needs backup to protect him before his future title opportunity.

Duke Hudson interrupted and disrespected them, only for the duo to take him out as they appeared to turn heel.

Mandy Rose debuted a new look before interfering in Gigo Dolin and Jacy Jayne’s match with Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter, leading to a strong six-man tag which God’s Greatest Creation won for her team.

There were more squashes to come too, with The Creed Brothers Brutus and Julius destroying two poor souls, while their Diamond Mine manager Malcolm Bivens introduced new member Ivy Nile.

Then, he accepted Kushida’s Cruiserweight Title challenge for Roderick Strong, setting up a great match for next week’s show.

*WWE NXT airs Tuesday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
