Kate Garraway stunned her Good Morning Britain co-stars with her youthful appearance in a throwback video from early in her TV career.

The video was a highlight reel of Kate’s best bits that was put together for the Tric Awards, where she won the special recognition award at the end of the night.

Playing the 90s clip on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid drew attention to a fresh faced Kate fronting Central News.

The TV star had swept up her long brown hair in a voluminous half ponytail with big gold earrings and a white jacket.

She said in the video: ‘Good afternoon the lunchtime news for Central.’

Ben also noted how the way she spoke was different, joking her ‘diction’ had worsened over the years.

Kate, who recently won a National Television Award for her documentary Finding Derek, explained that she only ended up on TV that day as she was standing in for a colleague who had fallen ill, and things snowballed from there.

Susanna also noted how similar she looked to her 15-year-old daughter Darcey, showing viewers an image of them side by side.

‘She’ll hate this’ Kate quipped, adding that she hadn’t noticed before how similar they looked.

Speaking about how her Tric Awards win came as a shock, Kate told her co-stars: ‘All of you are sneaky liars. You knew but you didn’t tell me and it was right at the end of the afternoon when I’d completely unravelled. My false eyelashes were coming off. I was quite good on the drink, but I’d just generally unravelled.’

She then brandished her gold coloured trophy and added: ‘This is very lovely, thank you very much. A special recognition award, just for surviving so long, it felt like a retirement award. It was very nice.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
