Piers Morgan will be taking up a new job at News UK’s newly-confirmed TalkTV channel and fellow newbie broadcaster GB News is already gearing up for a fight.

Piers, 56, has been absent from screens since quitting Good Morning Britain in March after refusing to apologise for comments on Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

But on Thursday it was confirmed that Piers would be heading to News UK after months of speculation about his future as a broadcaster.

GB News, which was launched earlier this year as a brand new channel, quickly reacted to the news, finding the opportune moment to congratulate their new rival.

The post from the channel’s official account read: ‘Congratulations to @piersmorgan.

‘We love competition,’ the tweet added. ‘Bring it on!’

Piers announced he would be returning to News Corp with several new projects on the go, including columns for both The Sun and The New York Post.

He said: ‘I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp. which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago.

‘Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together.’

The TV presenter shared hints throughout the day pointing towards him being tied with a big new project.

He shared an image of himself dressed in a suit and asked: ‘Is it going back to work day?’

It comes after Piers’ wife Celia Walden confirmed last month her husband had been offered a job by GB News, relaying his response to The Telegraph: ‘Of course, they asked. But I’ve had lots of offers and it’s not as if I need a platform.

‘I have eight million Twitter followers, although, for what it’s worth, I think GB News are on to something and will succeed in the end,’ she told the publication of her husband’s verdict.

The channel is currently facing a stream of uncertainty after Chairman of GB News Andrew Neil announced he had stepped down from his role just a few months after its inception.

In a statement, Andrew said: ‘I am sorry to go but I have concluded it’s time to reduce my commitments on a number of fronts. Over the summer I’ve had time to reflect on my extensive portfolio of interests and decided it was time to cut back.’

He added: ‘I wish GB News well in continuing to fulfil its founding promise and mission to reach audiences currently underserved by existing news broadcasters.’

Andrew also tweeted about his resignation, writing: ‘It’s official: I have resigned as Chairman and Lead Presenter of GB News.’

New names had been brought in recently to try and help boost numbers such as Farage and Mark Dolan.

But the viewing figures at the channel continue to dwindle, with the former Ukip leader’s show losing half its viewers in a two week time period in August.
