Rosario Dawson attacks Malakai Black on AEW Dynamite as Cody Rhodes returns
Yes, this really happened (Picture: AEW)
Rosario Dawson jumped on Malakai Black before Cody Rhodes came to her rescue on AEW Dynamite this week.
Yep, wrestling in 2021 continues to deliver on big surprises and totally unexpected moments as the Men In Black II, Sin City and Zombieland: Double Tap actress appeared on Wednesday’s show and got physical as her Go-Big Show co-star Rhodes made his return.
Black made his haunting entrance and almost immediately turned his attention to Cody’s friend at ringside, referencing the enemy’s colours as she was seen on the front row in a Nightmare Factory jacket.
He got out of the ring as Dawson stepped from behind the barrier, showing no fear and squaring up to the former NXT Champion, who debuted in AEW over summer just weeks after his WWE exit.
There was a buzz in the crowd as Rhodes started to make his way down through the stands six weeks after Black’s attack wrote him off TV.
With Black momentarily distracted, Dawson jumped on his back and hung on for dear life as he tried to shake her off, eventually dropping her as Rhodes made the save and sparked a brawl between the two rivals.
They fought through the arena, delivering on Cody’s comeback with a hot angle making great use of a genuinely mainstream crossover star.
There was plenty to get excited about elsewhere on the show too, with Adam Cole kicking the night off with a strong win over Frankie Kazarian before issuing a challenge for Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy to meet him and The Elite next week in an epic six-man tag match.
MJF and Brian Pillman Jr.’s rivalry continued to be intense and almost uncomfortably personal, with the former being one of the best villains in wrestling at this point.

FTR – who beat Matt Sydal and Dante Marting earlier in the night – joined Tully Blanchard and Shawn Spears after the latter’s loss to Darby Allin, attacking the rising star and his mentor Sting.
Elsewhere, Team Taz laid out CM Punk, Jade Cargill beat ‘Legit’ Leyla Hirsch, Chris Jericho and Jake Hager interrupted Dan Lambert to set up a match against Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page for AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam next week, and Bryan Danielson goaded Kenny Omega into accepting a non-title challenge for the same show.
Finally, the main event saw Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley defeat 2point0 before Minoru Suzuki – complete with the Kaze Ni Nare moment we all deserve – and Lance Archer attacked and brawled as the show went off the air.
*AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday nights at 1am on Fite TV.
