Fantastic News for Xbox Series X/S Owners as a 500 GB Drive Might Release Soon

According to new reports, Xbox Series X and S might get a 500GB version of the expansion card. These new reports come from a French website named Xbox Squad. Xbox Series X already comes with a 1 TB inbuilt SSD storage.

Microsoft also released a 1 TB Seagate expansion drive to extend the storage further. However, these don’t come cheap, costing around $220. If the alleged new 500 GB version is real, this will certainly bring down the price as well as provide more options to players.

Xbox Series X and S: A 500 GB storage expansion card might launch soon

As per Xbox Squad, this new Seagate expansion card is nearly confirmed and will be priced at €154.99 ($181.89). The website also presents us with a release date of November 14, 2021. While there have been no official announcements as of now, the website claims that it might happen in the weeks to come.

If this does turn out to be true, then users of both consoles will benefit greatly. This will also bring down the price of the expansion drive. Xbox director of program management Jason Ronald in a blog posted last year, explains why the 1TB Seagate expansion card is expensive.

He states, “The Xbox Velocity Architecture is a key innovation of our next generation consoles, delivering unprecedented speed and performance enabling transformative gaming experiences never before possible on console. This level of consistent, sustained performance requires advanced components which comes at a higher cost than traditional hard drives or SSDs often found in PCs.

“By partnering with an industry leader in Seagate, we worked together to deliver an expandable storage solution which delivers identical performance at the lowest cost possible and available this holiday.”

While this alleged 500 GB expansion drive will surely help in driving the prices down, this will still not be enough. Xbox needs to partner up with other brands and also allow non-proprietary SSD devices. What actions do you think Xbox and Microsoft should take? Let us know in the comments.
