Rumours of the show being scripted began after a supposed former cast member claimed that it was in 2014, and reportedly said they were warned of shocking moments prior to watching.

This was later rubbished by a Channel 4 spokesperson, who said: ‘The Gogglebox cast are filmed for two to three nights per week. We film them watching live television and some that has been recorded.

‘The production team do not influence the comments. The reactions are genuine.’

It has since been reiterated by former cast member Tom Malone Jr, who confirmed the show was not scripted.

He told the Express: ‘If you watch my family on the show, you’ll know straight away we literally just say the first thing that comes into our heads.

‘Sometimes it’s not always a common view, me and my family have quite a blunt sense of humour.

‘But there’s never anything they say to us like, “You can’t say this you can’t say that” because it’s about our opinions.

At the most, he said: ‘If there is ever anything too controversial, they just wouldn’t show it.’
