Prominent F1 Journalist Reveals Classy Gesture Made by Sebastian Vettel for Aston Martin in Austria

Yesterday, Aston Martin confirmed Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll will remain their drivers in the 2022 F1 season. Although Vettel endured a disastrous season last year with Ferrari, his resurgence has been exceptional since joining the British outfit this year.

Along with exceptional performances on track, the German also enjoys the camaraderie he shares with his team. According to prominent F1 journalist Lawrence Barretto, Vettel made an incredible gesture for his colleagues in Austria.

Sebastian Vettel gave pillows to his Aston Martin colleagues in Austria

In 2015, Vettel realised a dream of his when he joined Scuderia Ferrari. While he endured several frustrating seasons in his battle with Lewis Hamilton, 2020 was one of his worst seasons with the Italian outfit. Not only did Ferrari fall far behind Mercedes, but they were far behind the major midfield contenders as well.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin, who were Racing Point last year, finished fourth with an impressive car. Although they haven’t been as impressive so far this season, Vettel seems a more refreshed personality in the paddock. Throughout the season, he shared many moments with the team, which occasionally included banter.

When F1 was in Austria, Vettel helped his colleagues who faced trouble sleeping by giving them pillows with his face on them. In an article written by Barretto following Aston Martin’s announcement, he wrote, “When he mentioned on team radio in Monaco that one of his eyes felt like it was bleeding, his mechanics had an eye-patch waiting for him as a joke.

“Similarly, when a lot of the team weren’t sleeping properly in Austria, Vettel – who has long given mementos and gifts to his colleagues – gave them all cushions with his face on them. It’s a relationship that is bearing fruit – and has aided his transition into the team.”

Vettel has 35 points from 14 races this season

The German struggled to make an impression in the first four races of the season. However, he took a stunning P5 finish in Monaco, and followed it up with his first podium finish for the team in Baku.

Vettel also finished on the podium in the Hungarian Grand Prix. However, the FIA disqualified him since the team failed to submit a one-litre fuel sample after the race. Along with points finishes in Belgium and France, he has 35 points, two more than his points tally last season.
