Changing Rooms reboot ‘faces axe’ by Channel 4 after huge drop in viewers

THE CHANGING Rooms reboot already faces the axe by Channel 4 after a huge drop in viewers, it has been reported.

The ’90s makeover show only just returned to our screens, but has lost a third of its audience after just three episodes.

The series got off to a promising start when more than 1.5 million people tuned into the launch show, but 500,000 have already switched off.

And a source has admitted that this could spell disaster for the show’s future, explaining: “Channel 4 will be wondering what has gone wrong. A lot was put into it but it doesn’t seem to have caught on.”

A separate TV insider curtly added to Sunday People that the show “won’t be missed.”

Changing Rooms originally ran between 1996 to 2004, pulling in a whopping 10 million viewers during its peak.

The reboot saw the series move from the BBC to Channel 4, with host Carol Smillie replaced with Anna Richardson.

However, interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen did return – but his home makeovers have not gone down well with viewers.

In fact, fans have been left horrified by many of the designs, including one that saw Laurence install window shutters instead of a DOOR in a bedroom he’d given a garish purple theme.

Another episode had viewers grimacing when a divisive paint job “looked like a dirty protest”.

Channel 4 insisted they hadn’t yet made a decision on Changing Rooms future in a statement, sharing: “The commission was for one series. A decision won’t be made until series one has finished.”
