‘Dumb Sh*t That Hurts the Team’ — Tennessee Titans Head Coach Irate as NFL Fines WR $10,815 for Unnecessary Roughness

Tennessee Titans met a disastrous defeat in the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The Kyler Murray led Arizona offense dominated the entire game from start to finish as the Titans didn’t seem sharp and composed at any point of the game.

The Titans managed to produce one moment to look back on that too, not in a good way. And that was the unnecessary roughness displayed by the newly signed wide receiver Julio Jones. This, however, was not accounted as the reason for the Titans’ defeat against the dominating Cardinals but was enough to grab the attention of Head Coach Mike Vrabel.

Mike Vrabel on Julio Jones

Vrabel on Monday bashed the seven-time Pro Bowler by saying, “Critical mistake. That’s absolutely nothing that we coach or teach. So, that would fall into the category of doing dumb shit that hurts the team, right there in bold letters. It goes from third-and-1 to third-and-16.”

His actions on the field were certainly not commended by others. In fact, it did just the opposite. And following the foul that Julio Jones made, the NFL handed the WR a ticket of $10,815.

The NFL fined #Titans WR Julio Jones $10,815 for unnecessary roughness — his personal foul in last week’s blowout loss to the #Cardinals.

Mike Vrabel called it “dumb s— that hurts the team” and it hurt Jones’ wallet, too.

Tennessee Titans are far from being season ready

Despite the foul, the game was already in the hands of Arizona as Murray registered 21 passes out of 32 attempts with 289 yards covered and four touchdowns. While on the contrary, Titans QB Tannehill covered 212 yards with 21/35 passes and just one touchdown.

The lack of efficiency and the will to compete cost the Titans the season opener. However, they still have plenty of time to bounce back as the season has just begun. Mike Vrabel will look forward to cheer up his boys and hold them from making unnecessary decisions in the gridiron.

Mike Vrabel will plan to use the talented and newly acquired seven-time Pro Bowler, Julio Jones in strategic spots. He would certainly hope to commend the wide receiver’s talent in his post-game interviews and not rile up on his disciplinary issues.
