Warriors Looking To Bring Back Key Championship Squad Member

The Golden State Warriors last season were expected to make a comeback to the playoff scenario. While Stephen Curry balled out, injuries meant that the Dubs’ possible post season chances fizzled out, and they crashed out in the play-in tournament.

The Dubs were expected to splash the cash and add another All-Star calibre player. Given that they had two lottery picks and some young players, a blockbuster trade was expected. But the Warriors have opted to trust their existing roster and have made some smart signings like Otto Porter Jr. and Nemanja Bjelica.

Warriors looking to bring back Quinn Cook

The Warriors have made some smart moves but they still have some gaps in their roster. Perhaps the biggest gap in the squad is the lack of quality secondary point guard behind Stephen Curry. While they do have Gary Payton II, the guard hasn’t been given too many minute and production is inconsistent.

Given his inexperience, the Warriors are in the market in search of a veteran guard. After being linked to former Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas, Curry and Co. have recently been linked to make a move for former guard Quinn Cook.

Quinn Cook will have a multi-day workout with the Golden State Warriors this week, a source tells me.

Cook played two seasons with Golden State and was part of their 2018 championship team. He fits the mold of that ball-handling backup guard they are looking for.

Cook is one of the many veterans available in the free agent market till now. While he did win a championship with the Lakers he was always the third option in the point guard spot meaning that there was a massive dearth in the minutes for the guard.

Playing an average of 9 minutes per game in the last seasons, Cook couldn’t showcase his talents. A return to the Warriors could be a game changer though. While Cook was a mere benchwarmer with the Lakers, he is still at the peak of his powers as he still only 27 years old.

The last time the guard played for the Warriors, he averaged career highs of 9.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. Given the lack of competition, Cook will also get some much needed extra minutes and can flourish. In case of the Warriors, they add a veteran who is well aware of their system and will fit in no time.
