“Wouldn’t Just Turn Our Backs” – Ricciardo Brushes Off Myth Amidst Hamilton-Verstappen F1 Crash Saga

Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix last weekend. It was his first win since the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix and McLaren’s first win since 2012 in Brazil. The race will surely go down as one of the best and craziest races of the season with plenty of talking points.

One of the main talking points of the race other than Daniel’s win was the crash between Hamilton and Verstappen. the title rivals collided for the second time this season. The Aussie driver believed it was a racing incident and further explained the accident from his perspective.

The McLaren driver explains why Max did not check on Lewis after the crash

In his latest appearance on the podcast Pardon My Take, the McLaren driver gave his opinion on the fact that Max Verstappen did not check on Lewis Hamilton after the crash. The Red Bull of Max went over the helmet of Lewis and landed on top of his Mercedes.

” This will come across as diplomatic, but as a general, all us drivers and grids for sure we have got rivalries. We don’t get on the best, but if he had a crash, and we knew the guy was injured like 100% all of us try to go and help.

If we knew that something was serious, we wouldn’t just turn our backs. So I’ll leave it at that. “ said Daniel if Max would have helped Lewis.

I think where I felt I was a little vulnerable was at the end of that stint: Ricciardo

As reported by Motorsport.com, the Aussie driver believes he deserved to win the race despite the title rivals crashing. He stated he had the race under control after the pit stops and knew he will win the race.

” I think where I felt I was a little vulnerable was at the end of that stint, where the tires were going off. But I believe the others were suffering as well. So in my head, I was thinking we were going to be vulnerable at that moment.

I pitted, and I think everyone else pitted as well, so I think we were all struggling at the same moment. And it was then when we came back out in the lead, then I was like ‘alright, we’ve got this today’ like unless something unfortunate happens we can really win this race.

I think that’s when any last bit of belief you need to top it up came, and you’re like ‘alright, someone is going to have to take it from me today because otherwise, we’re winning this thing’.” said the McLaren driver.

The win was important for him as he has struggled this season compared to his teammate. This was also the first 1-2 finish for McLaren since 2010 in Canada.
