Since 1995, Phil Mickelson has been a part of every Ryder Cup. This year, Mickelson will be a coach, looking to guide a significantly younger Team USA. His contributions over the years, though, cannot be neglected.

According to reports, he has the most Ryder Cup appearances, along with most fourball points won (nine). Additionally, he has also played most matches overall, overtaking Nick Faldo’s previous record of 46. He has also played 17 foursome matches.

Reports also add that Mickelson was also in the running to be the captain this season. However, despite him being a viable candidate, his play dwindled after his PGA Championship win in Kiawah. That being said, Mickelson is excited to be a part of the team, even if it means he cannot be a player this time around.

1995 Ryder Cup

Since turning professional in 1992, the 1995 Ryder Cup was his first appearance. He went 3-0-0 as a rookie, impressing many people. Despite his efforts, the US Team lost, Europeans winning 14.5 over the USA’s 13.5.

1999 Ryder Cup

Back in 1999, Mickelson and team USA won the Ryder Cup 14.5 to 13.5. It was played at the Brookline Country Club, Mickelson facing a 10-6 deficit. A young Mickelson won that day, 4 & 3 against Jarmo Sandelin.

2012 Ryder Cup

Another notable moment for Mickelson comes from the 39th Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club. Mickelson and teammate Keegan Bradley beat Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia in a 4 & 3 win and Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in a 2 & 1 win. On Day 2, they emerged victorious over Lee Westwood and Luke Donald with an impressive 7 & 6 score. Despite their effort, the Europeans took home the final 14.5 to 13.5 win.

2016 Ryder Cup

Mickelson’s Singles win over Sergio Garcia is well-remembered. The pair had 19 birdies together, the US Team taking home the Ryder Cup 17-11.
