‘Will Not Win Championship’: Isiah Thomas Makes a Challenging Comment on Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving is back in the headlines. Last year, the star remained in the news for his decision to boycott media interaction and later paying a hefty fine for breaking the league protocols. And now, the Brooklyn Nets guard is again in the middle of a controversy for calling out TV personality Nick Wright.

But amidst all the chaos, Kyrie has his support too. Recently, former NBA champion with the Pistons, Isiah Thomas, came to Ky’s rescue and made a groundbreaking claim.

Isiah Thomas has Ky’s back

Currently, Kyrie Irving is signed with the Brooklyn Nets until the 2022-23 season, when he will become an unrestricted free agent. However, he will have a player option next year and the Nets must want to sign an extension with him before he gets to exercise that.

In an interview with athlete-turned-sportswriter Etan Thomas, the NBA Hall of Famer explained the importance of Kyrie for the Nets. The 60-YO claimed –

“The Brooklyn Nets, with the team constructed the way it currently is, will not win the championship if Kyrie is not there.” – @IsiahThomas to @etanthomas36 pic.twitter.com/r2FWGs6PF1

Well, this comment makes all the sense given how the Bucks eliminated the Nets in the playoffs 2021 once Kyrie hurt his ankle. Plus, his camaraderie with James Harden proved fantastic in the last regular season where he embraced the role as a playmaker. And it’s not just about Ky’s ball-handling, even his off-the-ball game is super important for the Nets.

In a past interview, Isiah Thomas has once called the 7x All-Star the best ball-handler in the game. This also meant that he keeps Kyrie Irving above Steph Curry in the book of the art of dribble. And now, after Ky sparked controversy by tagging analyst Nick Wright as a
“Puppet”, IT jumped to his rescue.

The retired point guard called Kyrie’s voice authentic and detailed, “I respect the independence that Kyrie (Irving) has shown throughout this entire process. Just like we [do] as professional athletes, we as human beings, we as fathers, husbands, brothers — sometimes we get it wrong. And at the same time, sometimes the media gets it wrong…”

Apparently, Kyrie did not like Nick’s claims about his trade and retirement. Nick must’ve known that the Brooklyn Nets guard is a philanthropist and someone with a huge fan following both in and out of the league. So no one can get away with BS-ing on Ky. Can they?
