Ex-F1 Driver Calls Out Lewis Hamilton for His Reactions Following Max Verstappen Crash in Monza

Although the Italian Grand Prix is well in the past, some of its events still linger in the minds of many. The event which stands out in this regard is the crash involving Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, which saw divided opinions from fans.

While some pointed fingers at both drivers for the crash, others questioned their reactions after it. Among the latter was former Williams driver Ralf Schumacher, who had a few words for Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton criticised by Ralf Schumacher for being overdramatic

Although their crash occurred at low speed, the damage done to Hamilton and Verstappen was quite significant. Contact between the duo sent the Dutchman’s Red Bull right above Hamilton’s Mercedes, with the former’s tire briefly grazing the latter’s head in the process.

After the crash, Hamilton revealed the impact of the crash gave him a sore neck. However, the Briton made an appearance at the Met Gala the very next day, which irked Schumacher.

The German criticised Hamilton for going overboard with his reactions after the race, while mentioning his presence in New York. He said, “I think Lewis over-dramatized, considering he went to New York the next day to attend an event.” (Quotes translated by Google)

The 46-year-old also called out Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff for continuously waving off any criticism directed towards the reigning champion. “If there is the slightest criticism, Toto immediately comes to the media and says, ‘This is not how we talk about a seven-time world champion.’ And yet he still makes mistakes, he will have to figure it out,” he added.

Can Hamilton break clinch his fifth win this season in Sochi?

With Mercedes possessing a flawless track record in Russia, Hamilton looks a favorite to taste victory in Sochi. Although he will face tough competition from Verstappen, the Silver Arrows’ W12 looks more suited to this track than Red Bull.

While the opportunities are there for Hamilton, he will hope to stay on the track and fend off Verstappen’s challenge. However, as has been the story this season, that’s much easier said than done.
