WBC Orders Ryan Garcia vs Joseph Diaz’s Fight for the WBC Interim Lightweight Title

After much speculation, the WBC has finally ordered the WBC interim champ, Joseph Diaz, to face the upcoming icon, Ryan Garcia. The latter was in contention to make a comeback, but he was in search of a rugged opponent, and also a fight that would help him land a title shot.

That said, Garcia couldn’t have asked for a better name in the 135-pound roster than Diaz. Also, this contest will give the internet star an opportunity to reclaim his interim strap, which he won earlier this year.

Garcia took only fight in 2021 and that was against Luke Campbell for the WBC lightweight interim title. He put on a sensational performance in that bout but went out of the sport.

As a result, because of inactivity, he got stripped. Hence, now the only way he can reclaim his throne is by beating ‘Jo Jo’.

‘King Ry’ is a prime fighting prodigy, and he’s certainly tested himself in deep waters against Campbell. The latter dropped Garcia with a ferocious left hook in round 2 of the fight. After that blow, many fans thought the young gun wouldn’t be able to come back in the contest.
