At Age 37, Andres Iniesta Earns More Than the World’s Highest Goalscorer

Robert Lewandowski is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment. The Bayern Munich striker won the European Golden Shoe yesterday thanks to his insane goalscoring exploits in the 20/21 season. He scored 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games last season, beating Lionel Messi (30 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (29 goals). But, he’s matched by former Barcelona great Andres Iniesta in this new list by Forbes.

For a player to win the Golden Shoe in Messi and Ronaldo’s reign is certainly impressive. Some argue that Lewandowski should be winning the Ballon d’Or this year. For a player as touted as the Pole, one must assume that he must be well paid. He is the highest-paid player in Bundesliga. But overall, he is eclipsed by a 37-year-old Andres Iniesta, who plies his trade in Japan.

Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta left Barcelona in 2018 after an illustrious career in Spain. The Spanish midfielder then joined the Japanese club, Vissel Kobe on a two-year contract. The Spaniard has a gross salary of $31 million.

Recently, Forbes released a ranking of the highest-paid players in the 2021. Andres Iniesta found himself at the seventh position in the ranking. Iniesta earns a total of $35 million with $31 million being his wages and the rest coming from brand endorsements. The list is topped by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Iniesta earns more in wages than Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski is the highest-paid player in the Bundesliga. The Polish international earns $27 million in wages alone. According to Forbes, his total income this year amounts to $35 million. This amount is the same as the income of the 37-year-old Andres Iniesta who doesn’t even play in Europe.

Many were shocked to learn that the Spaniard earns $4 million more in wages than the Pole. Despite the deficit in wages, the Bundesliga striker manages to catch up with Iniesta through brand endorsements worth $8million. Lewandowski earns from endorsing Nike, Huawei, Head & Shoulders, his own brand of clothing [RL9] among others.
