Changing Tides? Doc Rivers Claims 76ers Can Now Win Title With Ben Simmons
The saga of Ben Simmons continues with the point guard expressing his desire to leave the Philadelphia 76ers. The point guard faced a lot of criticisms after his performances against the Atlanta Hawks. Thus, certain cracks appeared in the relationship between the player and the fans.
Now they want him out. However, head coach Doc Rivers gave his take on the situation and he still believes that Simmons has a part to play in the roster.
Ben Simmons can win a title
The player and the franchise are at a standpoint after the former expressed his desire to leave the franchise. It all happened when the player passed on an easy layup to score during game 7 loss to the Hawks. That moment was a catalyst for fans to turn their backs on them after years of mediocre performances.
But Rivers wants him to stay and hopes that Simmons can alter his mind.
“The Ben Wallaces of the world. It was great to see him go into the Hall of Fame. And the Dennis Rodmans of the world … help teams win titles and have Hall of Fame careers without being great scorers. I do think Ben can score way more than he has scored, but that’s not what makes him great. What makes him great is all the other things he does,” said Rivers.
“We can win a title with Ben Simmons.”

There are reports that Simmons won’t play for the franchise again after deciding not to attend the training camp. Many fans in Philadelphia want him to leave and the interactions suggest that moving on would be good for both the player and the franchise.
Simmons fails to live up to his potential
Blessed with incredible athleticism and unique playmaking skills, the point guard shares similar physical attributes with Magic. Howbeit, his performances last season do not give signs of encouragement for a player who just cannot put up points.
He only shot 30% from the three-point line while attempting just 10 shots all season. In this day and age, shooting bombs beyond the arc is important for the team after a certain Stephen Curry revolutionized the game. Thus, Simmons’ inefficiency beyond the arc is evident. Having 6.9 assists last season does not paint a pretty picture for his credentials.
