Golden State Warriors Lose Out on Former Guard as He Signs With Portland Trail Blazers

With training camp set to start, many teams are all set and ready to go. However, some teams are still making moves to improve their roster. Notably, the Portland Trail Blazers have landed a veteran guard the Golden State Warriors had set their eyes on.

The Warriors have not received much good news lately. Recently, reports came in on Wisemen missing out on a majority of training camp. But this recent move won’t affect them much; the Bay doesn’t have a shortage of guards in their roster.

With Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry taking majority minutes, not much attention needs to be given to the guard position. So, who did the Trail Blazers sign?

Warriors lose Quinn Cook

Portland did not enjoy the off-season as much as other teams. They did not make many moves, but that wasn’t the main reason. The situation with Damian Lillard left the organization in all places. Now they can rest easy as Lillard seems to have dedicated himself to them once again.

Free agent guard Quinn Cook is signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

To bring in some help to the roster, they have brought in veteran point guard, Quinn Cook. Coincidentally, the Warriors recently set up a workout for the former point guard in hopes to land him in their lineup. Cook was on the Warriors in their winning season in 2018.

He was also on the Lakers in 2020, where he won yet another title. Until now, no team had approached him before the Warriors. But he seems to have chosen Portland over the Bay to play with Dame. However, Cook did not have many minutes in the last season.

Cook played just 23 games last season, averaging 3.3 points in 6 minutes of play time. Hence, the Warriors won’t be as hurt in not being able to land the veteran point guard. They have players like Damion Lee and Jordan Poole as backups who impressed last season.

Poole emerged as a great scorer for the Bay, putting up 12 points per game in just 19 minutes. On the other hand, while Damion Lee didn’t dominate the numbers, he shot almost 40% from three, which will attract the Warriors instantly. Hence, this is a loss that the Warriors can surely do without but Cook would have been a valuable addition for his championship experience.
