Is Rafael Nadal Playing Roger Federer’s Laver Cup 2021?

Rafael Nadal has not performed up to his lofty standards this season. The Spaniard has been unable to make a real impact on the tour as he has constantly been struggling with injuries. However, just around the corner is the Laver Cup 2021 as Team Europe looks set to take on Team World in the competition’s fourth edition. Will Rafa grace the courts of Boston this weekend?

Nadal to miss out on Laver Cup 2021

Ahead of the Laver Cup, Rafa has been going through a recovery phase. Even though his fans desperately wanted to see the Clay king on the court, he will not be participating in the Laver Cup this year. For the first time in the four editions of this event, no player from the ‘Big 3’ will be taking part.

The legend of Roland Garros has been having a tough time due to his injury. He stated that his foot is still a little sore in the presentation of a documentary about his tennis academy.

Due to constant injuries, Rafa hasn’t been able to perform well consistently this year. His best performances came in the Roland Garros, unsurprisingly, where he lost in the semi-final to eventual champion, Novak Djokovic.

Rafael Nadal in Laver Cup 2019

Nadal last played the Laver Cup Back in 2019 as the 2020 event was canceled due to Covid. He lost the Doubles match for Europe to Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock in a three-setter match. He had partnered up with Stefanos Tsitsipas for the game. Rafa won his men’s singles match in straight sets against the Canadian Milos Raonic that year.

Till now, Team Europe has dominated the Laver Cup and won every edition. This time, in the absence of Rafa, Roger and Novak, can Team World finally win the Laver Cup? We’ll soon find out.
