“Massive Inspiration”: Andy Murray’s Mother Believes Emma Raducanu Will Stimulate Grassroots Tennis Across Great Britain

Ever since winning her maiden slam title at the US Open, Emma Raducanu has been receiving immense praise and applause from former players, coaches, and critics. The teenage prodigy, who shot to fame with her incredible run at the Wimbledon Championships, managed to get past the qualifiers undefeated and didn’t lose a set in her title run.

The Brit had to face some competition from top- tier stars like Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari. But, Raducanu didn’t flinch as she dominated these players to reach the finals.

Against yet another prodigy from Canada, it felt as if the Brit would falter at one point or the other in the final. But, it was Leylah Fernandez who was overwhelmed by the hugeness of the event as she allowed Raducanu to dictate points from the baseline throughout the final.

Judy Murray believes Emma Raducanu will inspire more youngsters to pick up the racquet across Britain

As she reached home following a huge victory for Great Britain, the media was singing Raducanu’s praise all over as it took the youngster some time to soak up the magnitude of her victory.

The latest to praise Emma Raducanu for her outstanding achievement was Andy Murray‘s mother, Judith Mary Murray. The Scottish tennis coach was asked by the BBC on her opinion regarding Raducanu’s success at the US Open.

It was an incredible success. It really came out of nowhere and it will provide a massive inspiration, I think, for grassroots tennis to grow, and especially for girl’s tennis, to have a teen role model, it couldn’t be better for getting more girls involved in playing the game”, said Judy.

Judy Murray was in Aberdeen as part of the launch of a community program for Battle of the Brits, an annual event that is scheduled to take place between December 21 and December 22 this year.

“Take advantage of the massive opportunity”- Judy on promoting grassroots tennis in Scotland

This time around, it will be a battle of Scotland vs England as Andy Murray, Jamie Murray, and Cameron Norrie will take on England’s Dan Evans and Joe Salisbury. Last year’s event was a success but it was played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions.

But, fans will be allowed to enter for this year’s event and Judy Murray was at the Aberdeen tennis center to conduct workshops in order to promote tennis. She also pointed out the need to utilize Emma’s success to make tennis more popular across Scotland.

We have to take advantage of the massive opportunity that Emma’s success and her profile and the excitement has brought. Therefore, events like this where you take your sport into the communities and you let people try it, you make it easy, you make it doable, and hopefully we get many, many more kids playing tennis across Scotland”, concluded Judy.

What Emma Raducanu did at the US Open was certainly inspirational as it could create a positive trigger in the minds of millions of teenage girls across the world that they can reach for the stars if they are perseverant in every match day in and day out.
