Report: LeBron James is Using 2019 Mini-camp Success to Give the New Lakers a Head Start

The Lakers front office has done its job. The 2021 off-season has been a blessing for the men in golden and purple for all the pieces they’ve brought together. This certainly puts LeBron James in the best position to win his fifth ring and also a record-setting 18th championship for the Lake Show. Perhaps that’s why he’s starting early with a minicamp as the first step.

Bron understands well that the new pieces must quickly find their exact place in the puzzle. It has happened multiple times in the history of the NBA that several Big Threes or All-Star rosters have failed because of their lack of tuning. King James wants none of that fate and is wise enough to do something about it in advance.

LeBron James is a man with the plan

As a fresh update, sports reporter Shams Charania has some important updates coming from Lakers Nation. The 27-YO revealed that the Lakers are starting with their first all-team workout and that’s happening this running week.

The Athletic analyst claimed, “Sources told me LeBron James is organizing a three-day minicamp, in Las Vegas, starting on Friday, ahead of next week’s training camp.” Now, the Lakers have many former players joining them back and also some veterans in the likes of Carmelo Anthony and others. Plus, with the arrival of Russ, the L-Train would want the starters and the bench holders to know their job beforehand.

Shams added, “James hosted a similar team function in 2019, the season the Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship. The Lakers had acquired Anthony Davis in 2019 and were integrating him to the roster. This off-season, in similar fashion, the Lakers have acquired Russell Westbrook and will now use this weekend as a catapult ahead of the upcoming NBA season.”

Not to jinx it, but history repeats itself and this is a good step towards that for the Lakers.

What’s the importance of one such practice session for the Lakers?

Well, this one’s nothing like the secret camp that Nets’ Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving ran last season. In fact, this one must be a much-needed pre-workout so the new entrants can be on the same page with the team’s vision and mission.

Last week itself, the world noticed how DeAndre Jordan, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and Russell Westbrook showed up for their individual practice. So now’s the time to combine those sessions and start building camaraderie. This can give the Lakers a competitive edge against the EC rivals in the Nets and the Bucks.

With this, LeBron James has made it clear how much the 2021-22 season matters to him. So what do you think, can this extra workload help the Lakers in the long run? Let us know in the comments section below.
