Russell Westbrook Looks to Set His Record Straight With Release of New Documentary ‘Passion Play’

Russell Westbrook has been the talk of the town this offseason. Well, why wouldn’t he be? He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers and will turn a LeBron James and Anthony Davis duo into a blockbuster trio that everyone is waiting to see on the court. But it seems like all this wasn’t enough to keep the fans intrigued as now, Westbrook will be making his way into Hollywood. About time, isn’t it?

Russell Westbrook rolling out a documentary about his journey

Westbrook has been connected to Los Angeles since the very beginning. Not only was he born there, he even attended college at UCLA, and eventually made his way into the NBA after being drafted by the Seattle Supersonics. He spent the majority of his career so far with the Oklahoma City Thunder but since then, has changed three teams.

First, he went to the Houston Rockets to join James Harden in an attempt to get them a championship. However, that clearly didn’t workout. Then he moved to the Washington Wizards, which wasn’t as great as expected, and is now going to be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Unfortunately, there has been plenty of misconception around Russell. Although teammates and coaches have always spoken highly of him, he is labeled as a selfish player who chases stats. But it seems like he is determined to put an end to all that speculation.

Westbrook is producing a documentary called ‘Passion Play: Russell Westbrook’, which will air on Showtime on October 15. This will capture his journey from high school into the league, but it will also solve another purpose. “There are a lot of misconceptions about me but I’m ready to share my story and my journey with my fans,” said Westbrook.

Some prominent people backing this project

Passion Play is being made by Emmy award-winning filmmakers Gotham Chopra and co-directed by Erik LeDrew. They have put together some beautiful documentaries for big names like Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, and LeBron James. So, fans can count on this being a hit as well.

“When we started this project with Russell Westbrook in the fall of 2019 and attended his first game with the Houston Rockets, we were all literally living in a different world,” Chopra said. “Two years later – three teams later for Russell – I can say there’s no one I’d rather have ridden this roller coaster with than Russ.”

“Contrary to the persona that’s been painted about him, he’s one of the sharpest, most dynamic, caring, creative and driven people I’ve ever met and collaborated with, and I am excited to share that true version of him with the world through this film.”

With Russ’ true story taking the spotlight, this will only hype up the new chapter in his career with the Lakers even more. But there is no way any avid NBA fan is going to miss out on watching it, right?
