‘I Just Don’t Want to Feel Smaller’- Jon Jones Says He Is Yet to Hit the Right Weight for UFC Heavyweight Return

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones says he wants to be strong and confident for his heavyweight debut. He recently revealed the weight he wants to be at before his debut fight.

‘Bones’ is one of the greatest fighters to enter the octagon. He is a prominent name in the sport. Many people believe Jones is one of the greatest fighters in MMA. And his illustrious UFC resume confirms the same.

However, ‘Bones’ vacated his light heavyweight title to move to the heavyweight division of the UFC in 2020. Now he is waiting for his debut fight in the new division.

‘Bones’ recently appeared at the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony and answered a few questions. While talking about his preparations for the heavyweight move, Bones said, “I’m about 255 right now. And I’d like to get up to 270 and cut down to 265.”

He added, “I just don’t want to feel smaller than any of the guys and want to be more conditioned, more skilled, and just as strong, if not the strongest guy”

Jones’s fans will be excited to see him fighting in the heavyweight division. However, we do not have an exact date for his return as of now. However, ‘Bones’ recently gave the fans a hint regarding his anticipated return.

Jon Jones Says He Will Fight in the Mid-Quarter of 2022

Jon Jones is the most dominant champion in the history of the UFC. The 26-1 record holder is currently on an amazing 17 fight win streak.

However, he vacated his 205lbs title after defeating Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in 2020 and announced a move to the heavyweight division. The promotion was about to set up a title bout between Francis Ngannou and Jones, but that couldn’t come to fruition as the promotion and Jones weren’t able to come to an agreement on his payout for the blockbuster matchup.

Instead, the UFC set up an interim title bout between Ciryl Gane and Derrick Lewis. This left Jones’s fans wondering about the return of the former champ. However, ‘Bones’ recently shed some light on the same topic.

In an interview with ESPN at the UFC Hall of Fame, Jones said, “So I’m hearing Francis and Ciryl Gane are gonna fight may be in January. And so I’m predicting maybe I will fight in the second quarter of next year.”

He added, ” I would like to fight the winner of Ngannou and Ciryl, but we got Stipe out there lingering as well. We will see what the UFC decides to do. But I would like to fight the winner of those two.”

The former light heavyweight champ wants to fight the winner of the heavyweight title bout. However, the ultimate goal of the American fighter is to secure another belt for himself. It will surely excite the fans to witness his return in this new avatar.
