‘I Think I Can Beat Him With Ease’- Kim Jae Woong Uber Confident Ahead of His Title Fight Against Martin Nguyen

Ahead of the biggest fight of his career, #5-ranked ONE Championship featherweight “The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong is confident he will rise to the occasion against his toughest opponent yet.

Kim is scheduled to face former ONE Featherweight World Champion and current #1-ranked contender Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen at ONE: Revolution, which broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium this Friday, September 24. Kim thinks highly of Nguyen and believes the Vietnamese-Australian is a fantastic fighter, but he also knows exactly how to beat him.

“First of all, I think Martin Nguyen is a great fighter and a role model, and I consider him as one of the best. He’s a fighter who I respected and enjoyed watching even before I joined ONE Championship, which is why I wanted to fight with him, no matter what. He’s already been the World Champion, so I want to beat him, prove myself, and become the best by fighting with the best,” Kim said.

“I knew Martin even before I joined ONE Championship [in 2019], so I know his strengths and weaknesses a lot more than he knows mine. For a long time, I have contemplated on how to beat him, so this time, I am 200 percent confident.” Both Kim and Nguyen are bonafide finishers and extreme knockout artists. The two combine for a record of 24 wins, 20 of which have come inside the distance. However, Kim says there is a difference in their fighting styles.

Can Kim Jae Woong defend his belt in his toughest to date?

“I am quite reckless. [I like to] pressure my opponent and drag them through the mud to make it more difficult — which can also be difficult for me, but I tend to enjoy these situations,” Kim said of his style.

“Martin is good at curved [punches], but I throw linear and curved [strikes]. In my opinion, I think I have more skills in striking. Nguyen has one right hook, but I have much more options than that, so I think I can beat him with ease.”

According to the promotion, this contest is a potential ONE Featherweight World Title eliminator, which means the winner could go on to challenge for the belt in his next bout. Kim is confident he will come out on top against his esteemed adversary, and then march all the way to the featherweight throne.

“Making my opponent feel cornered and unable to breathe is the kind of competition I go for and enjoy. I will go more for Nguyen’s mind and make him give up,” Kim said. “I feel that if I defeat Martin Nguyen, then I don’t have much left to do to become the World Champion. I felt this was an opportunity, and that’s one of the reasons why I called him out as well. This year, the World Championship title is my goal.”

ONE: Revolution broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, September 24. Christian “The Warrior” Lee defends his ONE lightweight world title against #3-ranked lightweight Ok Rae Yoon in the main event.
