Mercedes Provide Crucial Update on F1 Jackman Mistakenly Hit by Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes would leave the Free Practice Sessions on Friday thrilled. They locked out the front row in both FP1 and FP2, with Bottas leading Hamilton at the Russian Grand Prix. There was a bit of a scare, though, when Hamilton came to pits complaining about the brakes.

On his way to his pit stop, the 7-time world champion knocked over the jackman. “For everyone asking, our front jackman is OK,” said the Mercedes while providing an update.

Mercedes look imperious in Friday Practice as they go 1-2

The German team have always gone well at the Sochi Autodrom. They have won every single race at the circuit since the beginning of turbo-hybrid in 2014. Mercedes can also take comfort from the fact that their rival Red Bull looks at half a second behind them.

Championship leader Max Verstappen will start the race from the back of the field as he has finally taken a new power unit in FP2. Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc looked fast in his new power unit upgrade. He will also go back of the grid Verstappen in the race.

McLaren’s Lando Norris finished the FP2 with a very impressive P4. While teammate Daniel Ricciardo sitting out a good part of the session because of engine issues. Pierre Gasly put up a strong show in P3 before losing his front wing in the dying minutes of the session.

It needs two to understand when a collision can be avoided: Toto Wolff

As reported by BBC, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has claimed that from now on Lewis Hamilton will not concede the corner. After the crash in Monza, Wolff had blamed Verstappen for taking Lewis out of the race.

“The change in approach is that Lewis pretty much decided not to bail out anymore when he thinks the corner is his. Now it needs two to understand when a collision can be avoided.” Wolff said.

Max Verstappen, before taking the new power unit, had a three-place grid drop for the crash in Monza. By taking the new power unit he has nullified the grid-drop penalty.
