Simon McCoy declares James Bond should be ‘white and male’ in GB News rant

GB News presenter Simon McCoy has insisted James Bond should be played by a ‘white, English man’ as he weighed into to the ‘who should replace Daniel Craig’ debate.

Speculation as to who will take over from Daniel after No Time To Die has been rife and a string of stars have been linked to the role, including Idris Elba, Regé-Jean Page and Tom Hiddleston.

There’s also been rumours of a woman taking the part, however, the current Bond has shot down the idea.

‘James Bond, fictional character, yes,’ Simon said as he joined Great British Breakfast on Thursday. ‘But it is a character written by Ian Fleming.

‘He was a white, English man. Now, I’m sounding an old grump here, we’re talking about people of colour, we’re talking about Idris Elba, other people.’

‘And women also,’ Simon continued.

As the debate continued, Kirsty Gallagher interrupted: ‘Simon is saying you have to stick with it, that’s what it said in the novel, in the books and that is that.’

Doubling down on his statement, Simon remarked:’It’s a bit like saying a bloke should play the Queen. There’s a moment where you’ve got to stick to the script, isn’t there?’

Simon’s comments got a lot of people talking, with many agreeing with his comments…

‘If they want to kill the franchise then go ahead,’ one wrote, siding with Simon. ‘It worked a treat for Doctor Who.’

Another added: ‘No! Bond is male, that’s how it should be kept. If they want a female spy, create one that can run concurrently, but don’t change what has worked well for decades.’
