Star Trek’s William Shatner set to boldly go ‘to space with Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin crew’

William Shatner appears to be set to boldly go where (not many) men have gone before, and head into space with Jeff Bezo’s Blue Origin crew.

The Star Trek actor, 90, is rumoured to be part of the second crew to go on a space flight in the New Shepard capsule, according to TMZ

If the rumours are true, William would be the oldest person ever to go into space, decades after playing Captain Kirk.

William is said to be going on the 15-minute civilian flight in October, with sources claiming the voyage will be filmed for a documentary.

Insiders claimed that William’s people were ‘talking to Discovery’ about the special but the deal did not materialise, but are continuing negotiations with other channels.

Jeff and his crew took their first flight to the edge of space in July, reaching an altitude of 66.5miles where they experienced zero gravity for a few minutes before returning to Earth.

William has previously spoken about his desire to go to space, sharing a Photoshopped image of himself in a spacesuit last year.

He tweeted the image to NASA asking whether he could join the SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo-2’s  commercial spaceflight to the International Space Station, writing: ‘Just in case; the suit does fit!’

William also hinted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier in the year that he might be up for a trip to the edge of space.

He said during a panel: ‘There’s a possibility that I’m going to go up for a brief moment and come back down.’

As well as Jeff’s commercial space flights, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic also took a trip outside of the Earth’s atmosphere earlier in the summer.
