“The Money and the Sponsors, They Won’t Let Me Get Away From Fighting”- Nick Diaz Makes a Shocking Claim

Nick Diaz is unquestionably one of the most well-known UFC fighters. The Stockton native has a stellar professional fighting record and has been competing since 2001. He put on brilliant performances and showed tremendous technique during his time in the UFC. Diaz’s exceptional striking and grappling abilities have earned him an MMA record of (26-9)

The last time he stepped inside the octagon was against Anderson Silva in 2015, where he walked away with a win. However, after testing positive for marijuana, the fight was later declared as a no contest, and Nick was suspended from the UFC for five long years. Most fans expected Nick to retire after his five-year ban. But to their surprise, he will return to the octagon on September 25th to face his longtime rival Robbie Lawler at UFC 266.

Nick Diaz claims sponsors won’t let him quit fighting.

ESPN MMA‘s Brett Okamoto recently interviewed Nick Diaz. The Stockton native made some surprising claims during the interview. Nick shared his thoughts regarding his upcoming matchup with former rival Robbie Lawler, and his return to the octagon after a six-year absence.

During this interview, Nick mentioned he did not really enjoy fighting. “I never enjoyed fighting. It’s just something that I do,” he explained. Diaz stated he believes fighting is an inevitable part of his life. He then said the following, “It just is. It is. All the people around me and all the money and the sponsors and all that, they won’t Let me get away from fighting.”

He also stated that he did not want to be regretful later on in life. “I might as well just go and take my punches. I don’t want to look back and say why did I not just do it, you know.” 

During the conversation, Nick seemed incredibly calm. Honesty and authenticity are two very different things, yet he is oozes of both. Nick simply spoke of how he felt at the time and showed his fans his genuine sentiments. Most fighters attempt to appear strong and unstoppable, but Nick was the total opposite.

Nick Diaz’s upcoming fight

Nick Diaz defeated Robbie Lawler in their first fight at UFC 42. Both men were at the pinnacle of their careers at the time. However, the current position of the fighters is completely different. Robbie Lawler hasn’t fought since losing to Neil Magny in August 2020. Lawler has lost five of his last six fights, and Diaz hasn’t competed since 2015, following his fight with Anderson Silva.
The epic rematch will take place at UFC 266 on September 25th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and knowing these two fighters, this fight will certainly live up to all expectations.
