Vigil star reveals he suffered gruesome injury during intense fight scene with Suranne Jones

Warning: spoilers ahead for Vigil.

One of the stars of Vigil has revealed they sustained a grisly injury while filming a fight scene with Suranne Jones, having to battle through as their character went head-to-head with Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva.

On Sunday’s episode of BBC One procedural Vigil, it was finally revealed that the Russian spy lurking in the shadows was none other than Lieutenant Matthew Doward (Lorne MacFadyen).

The episode ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger, as Matthew knocked Amy out and placed inside a torpedo tube, leaving Amy screaming as the tube started quickly filling with water.

Fans of the drama have just a couple of days to wait to find out if Amy managed to survive the seemingly inescapable ordeal.

Going behind-the-scenes of the unexpected moment, Lorne appeared on Friday’s edition of This Morning, where he told co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary that he actually popped his shoulder out of the socket when Matthew came to blows with Amy.

‘I actually popped my shoulder slightly out of its socket and had to carry on, so that punch there, that arm is just hanging lame at the end of that,’ he said, as Alison and Dermot grimaced.

After learning about the injury that Lorne sustained, it is apparent when watching the clip back that the actor is continuing in the scene with a limp arm.

However, he added that he thought he ‘covered it quite well’.

Dermot teased Lorne saying that he should have done his ‘shoulder warm-ups’, joking that it’s ‘drama school 101’.

On This Morning, Alison and Dermot were also joined by Adam James, who plays Lieutenant Commander Mark Prentice, and Anjli Mohindra, who stars as medical officer Surgeon Lieutenant Tiffany Docherty.

Alison remarked that at first, she thought Mark came across as ‘quite untrustworthy’, although she now thinks he’s shown he has a ‘softer underbelly’.

‘He might have come full circle. It’s a nice arc to play. I’m not sure how unpleasant he was,’ Adam replied.

‘He likes his boat to be run in a particular way and yes, now let’s see what happens to him. Does he come good in the end or not? I don’t know!’

Anjli, meanwhile, remarked how shocked she found it that women were only allowed to serve on submarines from 2010.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and the series finale of Vigil airs on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
