Ahead of tonight’s mega-event, these are three predictions for Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk that could help you with your own assessment of this fight.

Tyson Fury predicts a tough night for Anthony Joshua

Ahead of his own mega trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder on October 9, Tyson Fury voiced his prediction for Joshua vs Usyk. He recently shared that he expects the two-time heavyweight champion to fall short and run out of ideas later in the fight. ‘The Gypsy King’ believes the fight will start off slow and it’ll seem “awkward” initially.

Tyson Fury on Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk: “I expect it to be awkward for a few rounds. And I expect AJ to run out of ideas really. If he doesn’t land early and get him out of there, I see it being a tough night and maybe even a stoppage loss.” [@BoxingScene]

He added Usyk will eventually capitalize on Joshua’s weaknesses and at that point, the Englishman will find himself caught up. Tyson Fury thinks this will be a tough night for the heavyweight champion and sees Usyk winning by stoppage as a real possibility.

I expect it to be awkward for a few rounds. And I expect AJ to run out of ideas really. If he doesn’t land early and get him out of there, I see it being a tough night and maybe even a stoppage loss, said Tyson Fury.

Shawn Porter thinks Usyk stands a good chance against Anthony Joshua

Shawn Porter has a lot of respect for the Ukrainian undisputed cruiserweight champion. However, his respect also stems from beating him in a fight at age 17. In an interview before fighting Danny Garcia in 2018, Porter revealed he fought Oleksandr Usyk at 165 lbs as an amateur and beat him by points decision. He admits that was a long time ago and truly believes Usyk has developed since then.

Porter recently shared his prediction for the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk mega heavyweight battle. He largely remained neutral with his call; however, he highlighted that the Ukrainian champion has a “100% chance” of winning. Shawn Porter even joked that if Usyk defeats Joshua, people will know him as the one who defeated the heavyweight champion.

I’m not messing with Usyk man. I’m happy to see him doing everything that he’s done to this point. There’s 100% chance for him to win this fight.

I don’t know who’s going to win this fight, I haven’t picked either or, I like to sit back and let it happen or so than having an expectation, that expectation not being met, or me wanting more or less from one or the other fighters. I think it’s going to be a great one.

If anything, he wins that, and people say once upon a time, Shawn Porter beat him, that’s about it, those were old times,” said Shawn Porter.

Joe Joyce believes it could go either way

Anthony Joshua’s former sparring partner Joe Joyce believes this fight could go either way. He recently shared in an interview that if Oleksandr Usyk comes out slow, works out his opponent’s game plan in the initial few rounds, and then lands big shots, Joshua could land up in serious trouble.

However, he also posited that if Anthony Joshua comes out strong with his “tongue out” approach and lands a couple of heavy shots, Usyk could be wiped out early.

Usyk is gonna start a bit slower, he’s going to use head movement to try and start working out Joshua. Meanwhile, he’s going to be slipping shots and moving out of distance and moving around the ring away from the shots, so it’s going to be hard to hit.

Depending on how Joshua’s training camp has gone and what his game plan is, because if he’s a bit like the Ruiz 2 where he’s keeping it long-range and not letting him engage and all that, then nothing gonna happen for the first half of the fight. Usyk’s going to be slipping his jab, and Joshua’s still going to be laying out there.

If he’s going to come in and he’s like worked Joshua out, and he starts putting himself together, landing shots and if he can get Joshua in trouble, like wobbling and unsteady on his feet, that could be a problem. Alternatively, if Joshua’s game plan is to come in early, and stick his tongue out, putting shots together, then if Usyk, if he gets hit with one of Joshua’s clean punches, he’s going to be in trouble.

So we don’t know what’s going to happen till we see the fight,” said Joe Joyce.
