‘I’m Not the Best’: Giannis Antetokounmpo Reveals His Choice for the Greatest Player in the World

Giannis Antetokounmpo reserved his Hall of Fame berth in 2021 with the much-deserved title win. When the NBA pundits showed no faith in the Milwaukee Bucks reaching the NBA Finals, this Freak from Greek proved everyone wrong.

Now, if Giannis maintains the status quo, he is perhaps the best active player in the league. Well, not according to him. The down-to-earth reigning champion is very grounded and legit in his character, which stops him from accepting himself at the helm. But then whom does he think is the best?

Giannis Antetokounmpo sees LeBron James as the crowned King

In a recent interview, the 26-YO gave a list of star players he believes are better than him at this point. As the 5x All-Star expressed, “I like being a hunter. I’m not the best player in the world. I am telling you, I’m not. KD, LeBron, Kawhi, Luka, Curry, AD might be. I am not.”

The Bucks leader still has 10+ active years left in his career and that would cancel out all of those names, minus Luka Doncic. So in the future, this 6’11” guard-forward will most definitely find himself in the new-generation GOAT conversation.

The former DPOY then honestly added, I’m still hunting the All-Time Greats. LeBron is still the best player in the world.”

Giannis says LeBron is still the best player in the world

Well, Giannis speaks through his heart. But this came as a contradictory statement from the man who earlier in June tagged Kevin Durant as his top choice. However, chances are Giannis declared that as a quick reaction towards KD’s 49-point scintillating performance in Game 5. Maybe he actually means Bron as the king.

When the Akron Hammer disliked the Greek Freak’s victory

Back in 2020, it was a LeBron James vs Giannis Antetokounmpo war for the MVP voting. Eventually, the league named the latter as the winner and that meant the Bucks star won consecutive MVPs. This didn’t go down well with the L-Train.

King James was surprised and appalled that he received just 16/101 votes for the award. In an interview after the Lakers’ Game 1 victory over the Nuggets, a “pissed off” LeBron had stated, “It’s just the voting scale is a little weird to me sometimes.”

He clearly did not like Giannis (who failed in the playoffs that season) bagging both the MVP and the DPOY award in the same season. Back in 2013, Bron had missed one such chance to lift both the trophies when a controversial decision had awarded Marc Gasol with the ultimate defender’s award.

But now, the same Giannis calling Bron as the best must make the aging king a little happy. So do you agree with The Alphabet? Help us know in the comments section below.
