Lewis Hamilton Shares a Deeply Emotional Message After Mistakenly Hitting the Jackman at Sochi

It was a good start for the weekend for the Mercedes as they locked out the front row in Free Practice sessions. They were fast from the get-go, but there was a minor hiccup for Lewis Hamilton in the FP2 session.

While coming to his pit box, Hamilton knocked over a jackman while stopping his car. The jackman fell to the ground while trying to stop the car. Whilst Mercedes has confirmed that the jackman is fine, the 7-time world champion took to social media to apologize for his action.

My heart was in my mouth, I was so worried: Lewis Hamilton

The Mercedes driver took to Instagram to mention that he was very worried about the jackman while he was in the car. He continued by saying that mistakes are a part of life and he will try to come back stronger.

“I believe this is the first time I’ve taken out a mechanic in 14 years. My heart was in my mouth. I was so worried. Thankfully he was ok, pretty courageous to stand in front of the car like that. We all make mistakes.

It’s part of the journey, but it’s how we come back from them that matters most,” said Lewis.

The Mercedes driver will look to capitalize on Verstappen’s penalty

Max Verstappen will start from the back of the field as he has taken a new engine at Sochi. But Hamilton mentioned that Max’s penalty won’t affect his race preparation.

“(Max’s penalty) doesn’t really change anything for us. We just have to do our thing and focus on moving forwards. It’s a tough year for everyone with reliability so that’s definitely a shame for him, but we’ve got to try to capitalize on that and try to maximize our result.” said Lewis on Max’s penalty.

“It seems that we’ve started off on the right foot. Generally a good session pace-wise, we have some work to do probably on our long run and then tomorrow it’s going to be raining a lot so it will be interesting to see what we do in terms of setup for that when potentially Sunday is dry. A one-two would be spectacular for us as a team.” said Lewis on his performance in Free Practice.

But despite Max’s penalty, Bottas and Hamilton were looking rapid and looks unstoppable by the Red Bull. It would be interesting to see if both Mercs would be allowed to race each other or not.
