SHOCKING! Petra Kvitova Ousted by World No.30 in the Semi-Finals of WTA Ostrava Open

Former world no.1 Petra Kvitova couldn’t continue her good run at the on-going WTA Ostrava Open as she lost to Anett Kontaveit in the semi-finals in straight sets.

After producing two outstanding performances against Anastasia Potapova and Jil Teichmann, Kvitova looked out of sorts against Kontaveit today as the latter took complete control of the match right from the first set.

Petra Kvitova lost to Anett Kontaveit in semi-finals of WTA Ostrava Open

The Estonian bageled Kvitova in the first set and maintained an incredible first-serve percentage of 78. Kontaveit also won 74% of points on her first serve. Entering into the match, Kvitova was the heavy favorite as she enjoys a hefty lead of 5-2 in head-to-head matches.

Kontaveit didn’t make errors throughout the match but forced the Czech player to go for shots and make errors as a result. The unforced errors made by Kvitova in the first set also proves the fact that she wasn’t completely in control over her opponent.

After not being able to win a single game in the initial set, the former world no.1 made a successful start to the second set but Kontaveit made sure her momentum wasn’t lost from the first set.

Despite winning  a break point against Kvitova in the second set, Kontaveit struggled to close out the match as Kvitova fought well in the end to save a match point. But, the Estonian served for the match at 5-4, and even faced a break point.

Just when Kvitova was expected to turn the match around, Kontaveit forced another error out of the Czech and made her way into the finals with a 6-0,6-4, victory.

Anett Kontaveit will now meet Maria Sakkari in the finals of the Ostrava Open. It was heart-breaking loss for Kvitova in front of her home-crowd.
