New Orleans Saints Returning to the Caesars Superdome After Hurricane Ida Devastation

The New Orleans Saints will return to their home turf next weekend. The Saints’ next fixture against the New York Giants will take place inside the Caesars Superdome.

Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Ida and a fire starting on the roof of the stadium last week, it seemed far-fetched for the Saints to make a return this soon. However, they will be playing their first game in the Superdome against the New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 3.

New Orleans Saints back in their own den

“The Governor welcomes the Saints games back to New Orleans and appreciates the NFL and other teams working to accommodate the team in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida,” Christina Stephens, a spokesperson for Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, told via email.

The Saints’ Vice President of Communications waved a green flag that the stadium is good for use now and that the team might return next Sunday. Hurricane Ida made landfall on the Gulf Coast, canceling the team’s preseason finale and knocking out power throughout the city.

Unlike Hurricane Katrina, which ripped off much of the stadium’s roof, Hurricane Ida made no such drastic structural damage to the Superdome. However, on Tuesday, a three-alarm fire went off on the roof of the stadium, caused by a water pressure washer being used to clean the roof. Fortunately, there was minimal damage.

A month full of hardships

The recent days have been a struggle for the Saints to manage, as they had to set up multiple headquarters at multiple locations in Texas. The first game of the Saints, which was scheduled to be held in the Ceasars Superdome, took place in the TIAA Bank Field instead where they thrashed the Packers with a 38-3 win.

However, their week 2 match proved to be a failure on an equal scale as they lost to Carolina Panthers 26-7, in Foxborough, Mass. However, with the Saints returning in their own den, it it is safe to say the Jets will have a hard time against them.
