Vigil has prompted all kinds of reactions after coming to an end on Sunday night, and Martin Compston was even forced to clap back at a troll after he hit out at the finale.

The sixth instalment of Suranne Jones’s submarine drama from the makers of Line of Duty arrived yesterday, and it wasn’t long before social media users were sharing their thoughts on the episode.

One of them even hit out at actor Martin, whose role in the series was the subject of much discussion online following his shock death in episode one

After the Twitter user criticised the ‘cr** endings’ of both Vigil and Line of Duty, Martin wasn’t having it.

‘So that’s #vigil and #lineofduty that had really cr** endings, choose the next series wisely @martin_compston you don’t want to make it a hat trick,’ the user wrote.

I know Dave pal I’ve made an arse of it. One the biggest new drama of the year the other biggest drama of the year/century. Agents for the sack 👀 https://t.co/h86IPr1Sy3

‘I know Dave pal I’ve made an a*** of it,’ the actor hit back. ‘One the biggest new drama of the year the other biggest drama of the year/century. Agents for the sack.’

Consider them told, Martin.

They might not have liked it, but Vigil has indeed proven to be one of the biggest shows of the year so far, starring the likes of Suranne, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Paterson Joseph, Adam James, Ani Mahindra and Stephen Dillane.

The BBC revealed the first episode of Vigil pulled in over a whopping 10 million viewers, when it aired at the end of last month.

The crime drama, created by Tom Edge, hooked the nation from the off, leaving them desperate to find out who killed HMS Vigil crewman Craig Burke (played by Martin).

Vigil is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
