Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker has commented on his co-star Tom Fletcher testing positive for Covid-19 saying he knew it ‘could happen at any time’.

The McFly singer and his professional partner Amy Dowden will be absent from the week two live show this coming Saturday after they both tested positive yesterday.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, host Dan said: ‘Of all the places I’ve been in the last few months, Strictly is the strictest place in terms of following all those regulations.’

‘We’ve all accepted that it could happen to any of us at any time,’ he added.

‘We just follow the guidelines, we social distance and wear face coverings where you can, and basically, the only time we’re not doing that is when we’re on the telly, isn’t it?’

Dan went on to admit that he had spoken to Amy over the weekend, ‘but she was at one end of the flight of stairs, I was at the other one, you’re actively staying away from each other, that is the way it is.’

Fellow contestant Nina Wadia said: ‘We do stay in our pairs because that’s the kind of safest bubble that you have.’

This year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing has already been embroiled in controversy over reports that three of the professional dancers are unvaccinated.

There is no suggestion that either Fletcher or Dowden are among them.

The professionals who refused the vaccine have now enlisted the services of a London law firm to ensure what that they claim is their private medical information does not enter the public domain.

The BBC declined to comment on the identity of unvaccinated dancers to The Times but has confirmed to the publication that jabs are not mandatory for the cast of the show.

The corporation previously quieted reports of tension on the set about unvaccinated pros saying that no formal concerns have been raised by dancers or celebrities.

Tom and Amy are currently isolating separately, with Amy confirming in a social media post that she is not suffering from any symptoms.

Commenting on her post, Tom promised a grand return: ‘Rest up partner. We’ve got to pull something special out of the bag for week 3.’
