Promoter Advises Anthony Joshua to Stay Away From Oleksandr Usyk

Last weekend, Anthony Joshua suffered a devastating loss to the former cruiserweight champ, Oleksandr Usyk. With this loss, Joshua also lost his hard-earned WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles. Despite his lackluster display, he is keen on a rematch with the Ukrainian star.

The British star wants to exercise the immediate rematch clause. However, the bigwig promoter, Frank Warren, has advised ‘AJ’ not to take up this fight.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, he said, “He shouldn’t go anywhere near Usyk — he will never beat him. In terms of fighting Tyson Fury, it can happen. Joshua losing has taken away the belts and he is damaged goods now. But people would still buy into that fight. It can happen in the UK.”

Regardless of anyone else’s comments, the former unified heavyweight king is eager to settle his scores with Usyk.

He said, ‘‘When I was walking back through the tunnel after the fight, I just said to myself, “I’m ready to get back to the gym, I’m ready to just put that work in”. I know we can look at it from a negative point of view but, for me, I’ve got to take it as a great lesson and build on that situation.” (h/t Boxing Scene)

Joshua has that hunger in him to get over the line in his rematch against Usyk. A couple of years back, he was in the same situation against Andy Ruiz Jr. The world knows how he bounced back.

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 – When will it happen?

For now, there’s no concrete date for this fight. However, considering the fact that we are in September, this rematch could take place in early 2022.

Just like the Ruiz Jr. rematch, this fight, too, holds a special significance in Joshua’s career. His entire career and the hard work he has put in until now rely heavily on this rematch.

That said, the fans can only expect the best Anthony Joshua to show up with more of a polished game-plan in the rematch. Do you think Joshua will get past Usyk in a rematch?
