UFC ‌270:‌ ‌Greg‌ ‌Hardy‌ ‌to Return to UFC Heavyweight Action

UFC’s first pay-per-view of 2022, UFC 270, will take place on January 22nd. However, the location for the event is yet to be confirmed. Despite fans being unaware of where the fight card will take place, they have received news of some intriguing fights that will go down. One of these fights will be in the UFC’s heavyweight division, featuring Greg Hardy and Aleksei Oleinik.

The fight between Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier was added to the card earlier, which most definitely be for the number one contender spot at 185 lbs.

Additionally, UFC President Dana White had announced earlier that a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker was also in the works. As he revealed that the UFC would target January to set the bout up, Adesanya vs. Whittaker will surely headline the UFC 270 card if confirmed.

Greg Hardy and Aleksei Oleinik will look to turn their fortunes

The UFC has yet to officially announce this matchup. However, MMA Junkie verified the same with multiple people close to the situation.

Both Greg Hardy and Aleksei Oleinik would be looking to bounce back from their respective losing streaks. Greg Hardy, who made his professional MMA debut in 2018, is on a two-fight losing streak. His latest defeat was against Tai Tuivasa via a knockout at UFC 264. 

Oleinik, on the other hand, is on a three-fight losing streak. Two of those defeats came in 2021 itself, to Chris Daukaus and Sergey Spivak, respectively. His last win was against the former UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum, at UFC 249, back in May 2020. 

It is important to note that Hardy started his career in just 2018. Whereas, Oleinik is a 25-year veteran, making his debut in 1996. The Russian fighter will enter his seventy-seventh fight, while ‘Prince of War’ will walk to the cage for just the thirteenth time.

While their experience levels may differ, their goal at UFC 270 will be the same. This is because a loss could result in either side getting cut.
