But, Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal has bounced back from physical adversities throughout his career.

Rafael Nadal enters 836th week of staying in top-10 of the ATP rankings

Having made his debut on the ATP tour in the year 2002, and ascended to the top-10 on the ATP rankings in 2005. The move inside the top 10 resulted after the Spaniard won his first-ever Barcelona title.

That year, Nadal also defeated Mariano Puerta in the French Open final and laid the foundation for an invincible legacy in Paris. The former world no.1 went on to claim 19 more major titles equaling long-time rival and companion Roger Federer‘s record.

This combined record of 20 majors was equaled by none other than Novak Djokovic, who achieved the feat by winning this year’s Wimbledon title.

Since his entry into the top 10, Nadal continues to stay there till date and holds the record for the longest consecutive weeks inside the top-10 rankings of the ATP tour. It is the Spaniard’s 836th week.

Nadal surpassed Jimmy Connors’ record last November for most no. of weeks at top-10

Last November, Nadal surpassed Jimmy Connors’ record of 789 weeks of being a top-10 ranked player and became a leader in that group. Followed by Nadal and Connors are other stars like Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, and Pete Sampras.

The Spaniard, who is currently in rehab after a foot treatment post defeat to Llyod Harris at the Citi Open, wants to be competitive again at majors next year. Even though the Spaniard didn’t win a major this year, he managed to clinch two clay-court titles at Barcelona and Rome.

It’s been 6000 days since Rafael Nadal made his entry inside the top-10 of the ATP rankings and has won numerous titles and gathered scores of fans for his immense display of grit in every single match he played over the years.
