Lewis Hamilton Credits his Physio Angela Cullen for the Record Russian GP Victory

The 2021 Russian Grand Prix could well be one of the most unforgettable race weekends for Lewis Hamilton, who raced to a record 100th race victory. The 7-time world champion was up there from start to finish, driving his heart out, only for Lando Norris to obstruct his victory hopes during the dying laps of the race.

Then arrived rain as a blessing, as a weather miscalculation led Norris to lose his lead to the Mercedes driver. Hence, Hamilton and the strategists, together, pulled off a stunning win at Sochi. However, the Briton managed to add another name to this list- Angela Cullen.

What did Lewis Hamilton say?

As reported by Motorsport-Total, the 100-time Grand Prix winner credited his long-time physiotherapist, Angela, for the successful Sochi outing. Apparently, Hamilton had been struggling with neck pain ahead of the weekend, possibly due to the incident with Max Verstappen at Monza.

Hence, Angela performed acupuncture on the Mercedes driver’s neck, which helped keep the soreness away. “I woke up in the morning with a little pain in my neck,” he said.

Ange worked on it. It has been fantastic over the past two weeks. I would not have made it without her,” said Hamilton. “I was just determined to do the best job possible,” Hamilton concluded.

Mercedes, too, posted video clips on social media of Angela sticking acupuncture needles on Hamilton’s neck while the latter was lying down on his stomach on the treatment table.

Can Hamilton take on Verstappen at Istanbul Park?

Hamilton will certainly walk into the Turkish Grand Prix with splendid memories; Istanbul Park is where Hamilton secured his record-equaling 7th championship title in 2020.

So, can he continue this positive trend over this year’s Turkish GP weekend as well? The chances are quite decent. Hamilton, despite struggling a bit from neck stiffness, is looking in quite a good shape on the track.

Along with his blistering form, the powerful Mercedes could add more fuel to his potential dominance at Istanbul park as well. However, on the other hand, Verstappen will be driving with a much fresher power unit at the back of his Red Bull.

So, performance-wise, there are chances that the Dutchman could out-race his rival on the track. On the whole, the odds of winning the Turkish GP are lying even between the two world championship contenders. But, who is ultimately going to secure the top step next weekend?
