“Deal With That Pressure for Two Decades”: Former Grand Slam Champion Slams Critics Over Serena Williams’ Recent Form

Legendary American tennis player Serena Williams, who was forced to retire unfortunately at the Wimbledon Championships this year due to a foot injury mid-match, is yet to fix her comeback WTA tournament.

Serena Williams is yet to announce details regarding her comeback

After withdrawing midway from her Wimbledon first-round match, Serena Williams didn’t take part in any other tournament. Notably, she has been spending time at home with her daughter Olympia and husband. Recently, the American pulled out of the Indian Wells event, which made it almost certain that she would like to rest for the season and come back stronger next year.

The 23-time grand slam champion is back home enjoying quality time with husband Alexis Ohanian and daughter, Olympia. Despite being away from tennis action, Serena Williams has been active on social media, sharing several fun updates from her life.

Over the past few months, former tennis players Chanda Rubin and Zina Garrison have been making a podcast on Serena Williams as they discuss the qualities that made her one of the greatest of all time in this sport.

The guests to feature in the podcast include the likes of Patrick Mouratoglou, Martina Navratilova, Andy Roddick, and Rennae Stubbs.

In one of the recent episodes, former doubles grand slam winner Rennae Stubbs talks about how difficult it would be for a world-class athlete to step on to the court every time with huge expectations.

Also, the Australian criticized people who claim that Serena should retire from the sport as she is no longer winning slams.

Rennae Stubbs came out in support of Serena regarding retirement

Until you’ve walked in her shoes for two decades as the greatest of all time, that every single time she walk on to the tennis court, she is supposed to win and deal with that pressure for two decades and you don’t think your nerves can be a little sharp, you come talk to me.”, said Rennae.

The former world no.1 doubles player made her stance quite clear in her support to Serena Williams as she issued a disclaimer stating that those who never walked in her shoes don’t have the right to decide her future.

Because, there is no way anybody can ever, ever, say this is what you should be doing until you’ve walked in their shoes”, concluded the former player.

In every way, Serena Williams is the only decider of when she wants to quit from the sport irrespective of her winning another slam. From the effort she puts in all her matches, it’s quite clear that the competitive fire is still burning for the 23-time major champion.
